TRAINING

Keeping in shape during the off-season is a challenge most hunters encounter.  It is really important to maintain or even strive to increase your physical fitness if you want to optimize your hunting experiences.  Let's face it.  The better equipped you are physically to take on the elements during the hunt, the better your chances will be in having a successful hunt. I want to be strong; therefore, I will train strong.

In the winter of 2011 as an effort to get in front of the eight ball, I decided to train for the Pikes Peak Ascent in 2011.  This was my first race series.  In fact, it was my first race ever.  Was I nervous?  Yes.  Was I going to let that stop me? No way!  I saw it as an excellent way to prepare for my hunting season of chasing big game across the Colorado Rocky Mountains. So, I signed up and trained my butt off. (Check out my "Pikes Peak Ascent: Check!" post that documents the completion of this task.)

As I'm beginning to feel winter 2011-2012 hibernation mode setting in, I'm now contemplating if a 2012 Pikes Peak Marathon medal needs to hang next to my 2011 Ascent race medal.  Are there any other crazies out there that want to take on a mountain marathon with me?
